Sunshine Blogger Award – Part 3

Another award! Today, I’m getting caught up with an overdue nomination by Frostilyte for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Thank you for the nomination! I strongly encourage anyone who isn’t already following Frosti’s blog site to do so, he always has something thoughtful to say about the games he’s writing about. Frostilyte also streams every Friday on Twitch, for anyone interested in seeing his art skills or expertise in games like Hollow Knight, Fantasy Strike or Hades. Ok, it’s been a little while since I’ve done one of these, so let’s go over the rules first…

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Answer the 11 questions
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers
  • Submit 11 questions of your own

Here we go!

What are your Game of the Year contenders thus far?

So far, my favorite games from 2020 would likely be – DOOM Eternal, The Last of Us Part 2, and Ori & the Will of the Wisps. All three are games that I’ve been completely engrossed by while playing through, and have also stuck with me ever since playing. I also began playing Hades recently and absolutely love it, so I definitely see it being one of the favorites by the end of the year.

What is the one thing you’re super proud that you’ve accomplished, or are in the process of accomplishing with the extra time afforded by quarantine?

I can actually think of a few things: I built a pc earlier this year – something I had wanted to do for some time. I also started streaming on Twitch a little more regularly since around June, something that was both exciting and terrifying at the same time. I don’t know if it was anything that was aided by the insanity surrounding quarantine or not, but I can say I’m proud of myself for venturing just enough outside my normal comfort zone.

What is your favorite color? Also, why?

Royal Blue. They say that your favorite color can represent your personality, so my preference for deeper, dark colors clearly indicates as much about me(sure…maybe?). I usually find the color to be very relaxing and usually my default when stating my favorite color.

Is there a game that you repeatedly come back to from your childhood that you enjoy playing to this day?

I’ll have to go with Mario 3. I’ve been playing the game since I was just a little kid and have always loved it. I can still play Mario 3 today and have just as much fun as when I was a kid. It’s one of those games that I have a hard time coming up with anything I would change, it’s as close to perfect as any game I’ve played…except Level 7 – Pipe World. Screw that place…

Have you ever played a game that got worse the longer you played it? What was it, and why did it grate on you the longer you played?

I can’t think of many games that I started to dislike more as I played them as I don’t always tend to have the strongest opinions on games, positive or negative. I would have to say that I was a little disappointed while playing Borderlands 3, I remember enjoying the game the first hour or so, but most of my enjoyment began to give way to feeling annoyed with the game more than anything else. I wasn’t a big fan of the weapons and everything from gunfights and the story/dialogue fell well beyond over-the-top(even for a Borderlands game) and it started to feel a bit irritating. I only made it about 2/3 of the way through the game, so I’d like to eventually go back and finish up the game to see if it changes my feelings about the game, though I’m not real optimistic.

What’s the dumbest shit you’ve read recently?

This may be the most difficult of all Frostilyte’s questions, all one would have to do is pull up Twitter on their smartphone. One of the dumbest things I’ve read recently is a reply on Twitter to someone saying it seems odd, not that Nintendo implemented non-inverted controls as the default into the Super Mario 3D All-Stars, but that there was no option to choose which control style a player would prefer. The simple comment received this brilliant reply –

“Why isn’t there an option to play as a Nazi in every game? Cuz it’s wrong thats why. Same as playing inverted…its just something society doesn’t need right now”

I don’t know for certain that’s the absolute dumbest shit I’ve read recently due to the sheer level of competition on social media, but seeing it made me have to stop and think about what I had just read.

Do you have any favorite Youtubers? If so, who are they and why do you enjoy them?

I’ve spent far more time watching Twitch than YouTube lately, but one of my favorites would be Gaming Historian. Being a history geek that spends most of my time watching tv between either documentary-type shows or old Simpsons episodes, as well as anything video game related, it’s not too surpising this would be one of my favorites. The PBS-style presentation and narration also make Gaming Historian’s videos interesting…for me, at least.

What is the strangest thing you’ve eaten?

I’m not sure if this counts as eaten(drank? ingested?), but there was a Saturday shift at my workplace where one of my co-workers brought in some special coffee and made for everyone. It wasn’t until after everyone had drank some(and commented on the mild, nutty, citrus-y notes) that he finally revealed what type of coffee it was – Kopi Iuwak. A blend of coffee that is roasted from coffee cherries that have been eaten by and…..passed through an African civet. For some reason this is a desired, and pricier blend of coffee…which we just spent the rest of the day referring to as “cat crap coffee”. This is, inaccurate of course, as a civet is more closely related to the mongoose than a cat. That’s probably the strangest thing I’ve ever consumed…

Which of the seasons is your favorite? Why?

Fall. As a kid it would always be summer, having a couple months away from school along with the warmer weather for a few outside activities like baseball and golf was likely my reasoning. In my adult years the autumn months have become my favorite. It may have something to do with the sensory details associated with fall, like the crisp, cool air in the morning and evenings and the comfy, cozy feeling of a cup of coffee while looking out at the colorful leaves.

Cat, dog, or big chungus?

Umm….I’ll go with cats. I definitely identify with any animal that demonstrates a few moments of activity here and there, but spends most of its time laying around avoiding everyone. Big chungus is a close second?

Pancake, waffle, egg, bacon, oatmeal, hash brown, cereal, sausage, toast. Choose three to create the ultimate breakfast combination and defend your choice like your life depends on it because bacon, eggs, and toast is the only correct answer.

Umm…waffles, hash browns and toast are the three that immediately jump out at me. I honestly don’t have much else of a defense for my choices….

That’s all for now! I did my best to avoid answering Frosti’s questions with a simple one sentence answers…I used TWO sentences in most of them! I don’t have any questions of my own to offer, nor do I have eleven others to nominate for them. If you’re reading this, consider yourself tagged. I guess I’m only adhering to 50% of the award rules….

Thanks for reading!

  1. It will never stop being funny to me when people I nominated for this tag in particular use that banner I threw together in 10 minutes within paint.

Great effort on avoiding those dreaded mono-sentence answers. 😉

Big ups on building your own PC. That always seems really daunting until you take the plunge, but getting over the hump and actually doing it is something to be proud of. Now you get to experience the joys of upgrading your PC in future.

Blue, in general, is a relaxing colour, I find. I’m not sure why exactly that is, but it makes for a solid choice. You’ll notice I let to use a lot of blue and greys for backgrounds and that’s why.

Cat-crap coffee is the most interesting answer of those who’ve replied and may end up being the most interesting answer anyone has to give.

Welp…at least it was waffles and not pancakes.

    1. Yup. Another part of the blog award/nomination process seems to be borrowing/reusing the banner from the person who tagged you…unless I’m just that lazy? Lol

Thank you! Coming from three decades of being near-exclusively a console gamer, it was pretty cool being able to assemble a pc myself and wasn’t quite as terrifying as I’d always assumed.

I’m…glad to have provided the most interesting answer having drank the coffee from defecated, NOT decaffeinated beans. Cheers!
